NASK organizes first International Domain Names Market Conference in Warsaw, Poland
An informational conference about the Polish domain names’ market will be held in Warsaw, Poland on January 25, 2008.
This conference is organized by NASK, or the Research and Academic Computer Network.
NASK is accredited with connecting Poland to the Internet as of 1991 and is also the Polish national registry of Internet names in the .pl domain. The .pl domain names currently exceeds .75 million names and had a 40% growth rate last year. NASK expects .pl to reach 1 million names by April 2008.
The conference will begin with registration and opening remarks by Maciej Kozłowski the director of NASK and Andrzej Bartosiewicz, the head of the DNS Division of NASK and consists of three sessions, all discussing the domain names secondary market in Poland.
Session I, beginning at 10:10 and ending for lunch at 12:10 and titled “Is the Polish domain names’ market most promising in Europe?”, addresses several topics of discussion. Among these are “Why domains are the best investment for the next 20 years” and “.PL Registrar Programme — services, prices, discounts”.
Session II, which begins at 13:00 until 15:00, is titled “Security”. This session includes “Cyber crime in Polish Internet” that will be led by a law enforcement representative from the Cyber Crime Devision.
Session III, 15:30-17:30, is titled “Polish domain market — Strengths and Opportunities or Weaknesses and Threats?” The session will discuss topics such as “The Future of Domain Parking with a focus on the Polish market” led by Ed Russell, president of NameDrive LLC, and “Secondary Domain Market and how it can enrich your business” led by Matthias Meyer-Schönherr, Director Business Development Europe / Asia of SEDO.
Concluding the conference at 18:30 will be an invitation-only aftershow networking cocktail party.
Application Round opens for Paris Meeting Fellowships
MARINA DEL REY, California - The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) is putting out the call for fellowship program applications for its 32nd International Public Meeting to be held in Paris from 22-27 June 2008.
“The fellowship program plays a key role in making sure that global voices are heard at the ICANN meeting and in our various public forums,” said Theresa Swinehart, ICANN’s Vice President, Global and Strategic Partnerships.
The 23 fellows from 22 countries who played an active role at the Los Angeles meeting were chosen from 167 applications received. An additional 10 candidates chosen in this round were deferred to the New Delhi meeting in February. Of the fellows at the Los Angeles meeting, 10 had never attended an ICANN meeting before, and seven were alumni from the inaugural program in San Juan this past June.
